In this color combo
I had asked the dealer when they’d get turbos in so I could drive one and they wanted me to put down a deposit to order it. I don’t really want to do that, but now I’m thinking I might? I don’t know, that’s a scary commitment even if it’s not really a commitment. Some Camaro forum member who ordered a turbo said he’s expecting it in March or April, so they’re still a few months away.
Anyone with any experience know how long it would take to receive an ordered car once they've actually hit the market? Say I do wait til they arrive in March and then decide I want one and order it. Will it take a few months to show up?

While it wasn’t originally my intent, I ended up with an ordered car and it took about a month to arrive. FWIW, this was early in the production run, as your potential Camaro would be.

HNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNG
I have nothing to contribute, but that color is fantastic.

A couple in my Camaro club ordered a 2015 last year, one it took forever to find a dealer that would order a car instead of just selling a car on the lot, but once they got the order in, it took about 6 months to get their Camaro.

I’m thinking about doing this also, except with a V6 in Nightfall Grey. I’ve been keeping an eye out, but I’ve only seen one 2016 Camaro around Wichita at all.

Are you still going the route of leasing?

Yes, financing would be a bit too expensive I think. Leasing is the cheaper option payment-wise, and it frees me up to get a different car in 2 or 3 years depending on the terms. I haven’t actually run the numbers with the dealer though, only seen the estimates from Chevy.

They’ve been trickling in. I don’t know that you’ll be able to find one available for a few months, it sounds like they’re either all orders or going quickly. Davis-Moore had a Hyper Blue SS in that was sold when I was there, I’ve seen at least one black SS around town (saw it in Delano yesterday).
I would really like to drive the turbo and the V6 to see how they compare. The V6 will sound better and it’s got more horsepower, but the turbo 4 is lighter and has more torque. The numbers I’ve seen have the V6 at 0-60 in 5.2 versus 5.4 for the turbo. I figure the lower weight and similar power will make the turbo better for autocross, and it saves $1500 or so.

That would be fine. Well, any amount of time would be fine, but if I drove one and decided I wanted it in March it’d be nice to have it before too much of the autocross season passes.
I seem to recall my mother once ordering an Infiniti and getting it in a month. That would have been back in like 2003 though, so times have certainly changed. Plus that was made in Japan, not ‘murica

Duuuuuude awesomeness!

Eesh, 6 months would suck. My dealer seemed eager to order one, I’d hope they would continue to be. Of course the only way they get my business is if they get me the exact car I want or a deep discount on one I don’t, so I’ll make them order it

I think it would be hard to make a mistake either way. I was pretty set on a 4cyl until I heard the V6 with the NPP. Then I was pretty set on the V6, until I hit $34K on the build I wanted =/

Yeah....the V6 sounds so good, and if the turbo sounds like the ATS it’ll sound mediocre. I drove a turbo ATS briefly and loved it, which is why I want a Camaro. I’d actually love an ATS but they are pricey. I’m looking at leasing the Camaro and doing a short term, no more than 36 months. I figure I can turn it in at the end of the lease and pick up a CPO SS. That’ll make up for the sound.

Theoretically getting a lease on one is extremely doable. I’m between trading the sonic in and leasing a Camaro or buying a Miata. The Miata is probably smarter, but I can’t stop thinking about the Camaro...

Camaro all day dude. That thing looks 5 trillion time better

I’m sure it’s going to be a fine car, but I'd never commit to a car that I and no one else have test driven.

Right, that's my hangup. The dealer told me I could spec it, put down $500, and they'd order it. If I didn't like it I get my deposit back. Even with that reassurance I'm not sure I want to just hand the dealer a $500 check to order a car no one has driven.

If you’re guaranteed to get your deposit back, and you really think you’re going to want one, then I’d say go ahead. Otherwise, it might be best to wait a couple of weeks for the reviews to come out. I doubt there will be a huge waiting list.

The want is strong on my end too. But honestly? And I know it’s not the “enthusiasts” choice but I just got in a 2016 Malibu at the dealership and that thing is smooth, comfortable, well apointed, quiet, spacious and fuel efficient. The older I get the more I want that intead of a Camaro. I’m torn, however. Best case? I get the ‘Bu and something fun (Miata potentially.) Worst case? I just have to get the ‘Bu. As nice as that thing is (and the 1.5 seems to have some good tuning potential) I may be satisfied either way.

I like comfortable cars a lot now, but I autocross too much to have one as the only car

Get the v6

I don’t know how comparable it is, but my Colorado took about 6 weeks from placing the order, to the order being approved, to it showing up at the dealership. And I kind of went in blind on it. Sure, there were a couple mediocre reviews and one real good one for the truck with the 4cyl / manual... but I knew what I wanted.
I also want a turbo Camaro. And I’ve built one on the site in that color, too, just not with the black wheels. It was about $29.5k how I had it if I remember right. It sounds like such an awesome all around car, even if my 11 year old GTO does still have a bazillion times better visibility.

Best color combo, hands down.

it's a cool car, but why not save up for another year, and then get a CPO SS?

Because I want something new for autocross next year

I hear that. I’ll be interested to see how the turbo 4 does in the Camaro. It’s the engine I’m most excited about. Still fun, lighter than the others, and potentially fuel efficient. I saw go for it. But really, only in that blue. That’s beautiful.

modifying a leased car is very stupid. buy a used boostang instead
